"This is an unusual blog; the art of public speaking is crucial to politics and yet there's not much devoted to it specifically. This blog does, with posts combining accounts of the writer's recent engagements with some handy hints. Given some of the turgid speeches we're forced to suffer in the Commons, more MPs could do with reading it". politics.co.uk
"Nick spoke at our joint meeting with Kingston 41 Club. It was a brilliant evening. Nick is an engaging speaker, witty, topical and very interesting. He spoke for three quarters of an hour without notes, a most knowledgeable man. I cannot recommend Nick enough and can assure you that engaging him is a worthwhile endeavour. I wish you a great evening like ours". Manny Martins Vice Chairman of Hamble Valley Stick Club and 41 Club Regional Councillor, Region 24.
"Your speech to our 9 Rotary Clubs in North Surrey was much appreciated by me and I have received lots of feedback which was very positive about you. It was so refreshing to hear someone who has the wit to make us laugh throughout the evening without resort to 'blue' material and swearing. I do hope many others will get the chance to experience your talents". Howard Smith, Assistant Governor Area 1 Rotary District 1140.

I have been writing topical humour for broadcast, live performance or publication for nearly 30 years! My credits include numerous national BBC radio comedy shows starring household names, TV, newspapers and magazines, fringe theatre, stand-up comics, impressionists and other cabaret acts plus after dinner speakers - including, of course, myself. It's a daily habit (I have supplied jokes, observations and routines for commercial radio presenters on weekday prime-time shows since 1994). I write thousands of items of topical humour each year.
My monthly topical gags services offer the most suitable items for stand-up comics and public speakers. The humour is clean (occasional innuendo but nothing offensive), not overly political (the odd item but I try to be balanced) and chosen to appeal to a wide audience. But why a monthly service if it's supposed to be 'topical?' When I have written for BBC shows, producers have sometimes rejected humour about, say, a news story which broke on a Tuesday because they felt that it would be too 'old' by the time the programme was repeated on the following Saturday. With live performance, however, it's different; I have discovered that audiences have a much more relaxed definition of topicality (some comedians at the Edinburgh Festival perform shows based on news dating back almost to the previous year!) And sometimes a good joke may be about a smaller news story that not everyone has heard about anyway (but if a well-written set-up briefly explains it and is then followed by a decent punchline then - guess what? People still laugh!) Over the years, I have offered weekly topical gagsheets but, looking back at when I first advertised monthly topicals in the Stage in 1994, the latter proved to be very popular and I can see why: compiling a collection from the previous four weeks enables me to cherry-pick the sharpest and funniest material. I am very pleased to be offering this type of service again. Monthly 'Thomas's Topical Twenty': My best topical gags/observations from the past month's news, chosen for the widest audience appeal. A minimum of twenty items by email. Ideal for comedians and public speakers. Here are some recent examples: If a bank only pays 1% tax on profits of £11.6 billion then I think we'd all like some questions answered. For example: what's the name of their accountant?' Jordan/Katie Price says she's giving up her singing career after her debut
single only sold 3,000 copies. On the plus side, she's been presented with a
silicone disc.
Facebook now has 600 million users. These actually include three people who don't fill up the whole damn page with Farmville..
