A blog with valuable free presentation skills tips from a busy expert public speaker, radio comedy writer, speechwriter and trainer
"This is an unusual blog; the art of public speaking is crucial to politics and yet there's not much devoted to it specifically. This blog does, with posts combining accounts of the writer's recent engagements with some handy hints. Given some of the turgid speeches we're forced to suffer in the Commons, more MPs could do with reading it". politics.co.uk Subscribe Share/Save/Bookmark Nick R Thomas's Facebook profile "Nick spoke at our joint meeting with Kingston 41 Club. It was a brilliant evening. Nick is an engaging speaker, witty, topical and very interesting. He spoke for three quarters of an hour without notes, a most knowledgeable man. I cannot recommend Nick enough and can assure you that engaging him is a worthwhile endeavour. I wish you a great evening like ours". Manny Martins Vice Chairman of Hamble Valley Stick Club and 41 Club Regional Councillor, Region 24. "Your speech to our 9 Rotary Clubs in North Surrey was much appreciated by me and I have received lots of feedback which was very positive about you. It was so refreshing to hear someone who has the wit to make us laugh throughout the evening without resort to 'blue' material and swearing. I do hope many others will get the chance to experience your talents". Howard Smith, Assistant Governor Area 1 Rotary District 1140. BlogWithIntegrity.com Speaking Pro Central

Regular readers of my blog will have noticed frequent references to Nick R's in a Twist!, the booklet of anecdotes that I sell at speaking engagements. You can now order a copy direct from this site.

Nick R's in a Twist! (True Tales from a Professional Humorist) is a collection of anecdotes, mostly concerning my TV appearances and speaking engagements, plus many examples of the 'found humour' (unintentionally funny items I have come across in print or overheard in conversations) which have been delighting my audiences over the past 14 years).

The booklet includes the behind-the-scenes story of the (seemingly disastrous) appearance on a regional TV version of What's My Line? which accidentally led to my becoming a public speaker. There are also numerous hilarious tales of speaking at corporate dinners, Women's Institutes, Probus and other retirement clubs where things didn't go quite according to plan, plus a few stories from my schooldays and comedy writing experiences.

Contents:

Introducing Your Speaker/By the Way, It's Not About The euro.../...or the Military/Oh Yes, About that Title/How This Became My Line/The Man Who Buys the Papers/All About Eavesdropping/Well, It's a Bit of a Dirge, Really.../The Proof is in the Reading/A Tragic Tale of Acne upon the High Seas/Wheel Drop Again/CV  Afterwards/Jumping off the Gravy Stain/When the Speaker Failed to Show/An Unknown Quantity/Nickar Who?/The Literary Tour - for Four/Pies Fools/Now, Where Was I...?/The Keeler Question/The Blair-Nick Project/Openers for Closers/'Reserved for the Reserved?'

Nick R's in a Twist! is an A5, 44-page booklet of nearly 10,000 words. There's nothing fancy about its production (photocopied, card covers, staple-bound) but then it's the content that readers buy it for - and, so far, more than 1,000 of them have done so, with many of them forwarding it on to family and friends all over the world.

The price for a signed copy (including postage) is just:

United Kingdom      £3.50
Europe                   £4.50
Rest of the world     £5.50

What is 'Wheel Drop?'

When was the gravy low-flying?

Where did the performers outnumber the audience?

Why press five imaginary buttons when you could press six?

Who turned wine into water?

You'll find the answers to all these questions in your copy of Nick R's in a Twist! (True Tales from a Professional Humorist).
