Writing for Businesses

Although the vast majority of my writing over the past 26 years has been humorous material for broadcast, publication and live performance, I have also written some highly successful promotional material for local government and small businesses.

Corporate Video Scripts

I was commissioned by Bournemouth Borough Council to script the video which formed part of the town's winning entry in the highly prestigious European Entente Florale. This immediately led to a further commission, this time for a video script which helped Bournemouth achieve further successes in the Britain in Bloom and then Nations in Bloom competitions.

Copywriting

In addition to writing my own press releases, brochures and advertisements which have secured me numerous media appearances and hundreds of speaking engagements, training sessions and writing commissions, I have also had a great deal of experience in writing extremely effective promotional materials for small businesses, such as:

A small cafe. A year after opening, it was still only attracting a handful of customers each day. After interviewing the owner and establishing its USP, I supplied advertorial for a local free paper. This resulted in dozens of new customers over the weeks following publication, many of whom became regulars. The business then traded successfully for many years until the owner finally retired.

A recently-established day nursery. Once again, a carefully researched advertorial in the local press helped to fill all the available places. The proprietor later came back to me for brochure copy to help maintain this level of business and was once again delighted with the results.

A very successful cabaret entertainer. He is still using a promotional piece I wrote for him in 1996!

I can also ghost-write or edit articles for trade journals (I am a regular columnist for a trade magazine myself), write company histories or edit newsletters and reports.
